Thursday 20th October at 1100 hours at 24120 BELEYMAS.
Ceremony in honour of Colonel Buckmaster
On the 10th and 11th October 1941 under the code name “Corsican” four agents from Section F SOE and 2 containers of arms were parachuted into Lagudal adjacent to Beleymas by the RAF to begin operations under the control of Colonel Buckmaster.
The forthcoming ceremony is to name a street after the SOE operative, Colonel Maurice Buckmaster. The ceremony will commence at 1100 hours and will then be followed by drinks in the Mairie.
As you can imagine this is an event very close to the hearts of the local people. In fact the organiser, Claude Pierre-Bloch, has a family member named on the memorial dedicated to the parachute drop. Furthermore, the French Minister for Veteran Affairs from Paris will be the principal guest.
